An opportunity has arisen to join Development Management in of one Scotland’s award winning Planning Authorities. We are looking for an experienced Planning Assistant with a Licentiate Membership of the RTPI who is keen to gain experience of a wide spectrum of planning work. The successful candidate will be responsible for dealing with all aspects of processing applications for planning permission for a varied range of development types from small residential schemes and changes to business properties to applications for commercial, housing and industrial development.

Fife Council pays the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate to employees earning less than £8.33 per hour. If the hourly rate of pay for the post is less than the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate a supplement will be paid.


We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with a positive attitude to customer care. Individuals who are keen to progress their careers, further develop their knowledge and skills whilst delivering an excellent planning service. Applicants should be able to demonstrate a level of competence and knowledge of planning legislation commensurate with the post. In addition, the successful candidate must hold a degree or equivalent in Town and Country Planning. Applicants must, as a minimum, also hold Licentiate Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute and work towards gaining Chartered Membership.


The successful candidate will initially join either our Development Management Team, which processes a wide range of Local applications or our Gateway Team which deals with validation, legal agreements and service improvements.
Initially the post-holder will either be responsible for dealing with a planning application caseload appropriate to their level of experience or for assisting with the Gateway Team processes. They will be able to gain experience over the whole range of planning activities, as we positively encourage rotation between teams to provide a platform for gaining rounded experience and career progression.

The Individual

We would particularly welcome applications from candidates with experience of assessing applications for a range of developments as well as appeals, legal agreements and related activities. Applicants should also be responsive to customers and keen to achieve agreed targets.
