Due to a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR), Midlothian Council is looking to appoint a suitable female candidate for the post of Team Leader – Spring Service at Fairfield House, Dalkeith.

The Spring Service is an exciting and innovative development, initially set up by Criminal Justice social work in Midlothian Council in 2014. The service operates in Dalkeith Arts Centre one day each week and works with women who present with multiple and complex needs, and who may be involved in, or at risk of, offending. The service is co-facilitated by staff from a number of agencies, including the local authority, Health and the third sector.

The Spring programme is based on Edinburgh’s Willow Centre model, and runs a groupwork programme in the mornings, with the afternoons alternating between Health and Well Being sessions and Reaching In Reaching Out sessions, which aim to introduce participants to new activities and interests. Spring is a trauma-informed service and many of the participants have experienced traumatic life events and benefit from support to manage their emotions and improve their self-esteem and life chances.

Most of the women workers who facilitate the service do so as part of their substantive posts in whatever agency they are based in. However we have a part-time Spring Team Leader and a full-time Spring Social Worker.

We are looking for an enthusiastic woman who understands the impact of trauma and who has the skills to lead the Spring staff team and ensure that the women participants receive a high quality service. The post has arisen because the existing Spring Team Leader is on maternity leave until September 2017.


Diploma or degree in Social Work or Occupational Therapy or as recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council.

OR Registered General Nurse holding a District Nursing Qualification.

OR Allied Health Professional at graduate level & registered with the Health Professions Council.


Experience of managing a team or developing a professional service to vulnerable women with multiple and complex needs.

A post-qualification award in a specialised service area, such as child protection, adult protection, practice teaching, mental health, criminal justice, SVQ assessor.

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on you working 24.6 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £24,594.31 per annum.
