Specialist Healthcare Scientist (BMS 1)
New opportunities have arisen for suitably qualified and experienced Healthcare Scientists (Biomedical scientists), registered or working towards registration with the Health and Care Professions Council to join the Patient Services team based in the Scottish National Blood Transfusion department in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. This busy department provides a blood banking/red cell investigation reference service for hospitals in Edinburgh, the Lothians, Borders area and Fife and a Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics service for the East of Scotland.
Ideally candidates will hold an IBMS Specialist Diploma or equivalent or be prepared to complete this on appointment. Active participation in CPD and opportunities for further study are both supported and encouraged. You will be required to participate in 24/7 working and provide advice to clinicians and other healthcare staff as to appropriateness of tests and time scales. You will be responsible for your own work and use specialist training to operate complex equipment and solve problems. It is desirable that you can act as a mentor to less experienced scientists and participate in training /supervision of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Biomedical support workers. You will have a BSc honours degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent, which is acceptable for Health and Care Professions Council registration and formal evidence of specialist knowledge in a range of discipline specific procedures. Evidence of continuing professional development, for example, a specialist portfolio of development, attendance at specialist courses, training on new instrumentation and learning through reflective practice are desirable.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has worked overseas for more than 3 months will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.
Our benefits package includes pension scheme, comprehensive range of work life balance policies, occupational health services, learning resource centres and discounted leisure, financial and shopping benefits.
