ROLE DEFINITION

Responsibility for the management, organisation and development of the school resource centre and associated resources.



KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Corporate Responsibilities

  • To undertake individual role in line with the Council's Strategic Priorities and in compliance with the Council's corporate policies and procedures.
  • To undertake any other reasonably required duties as instructed by Management or someone acting on their behalf, in addition to the role specific tasks & responsibilities detailed below.

Role Specific Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Effectively develop the resource centre to support learning and teaching across the curriculum ensuring efficient acquisition, management and organisation of resources, and appropriate access to resources and facilities.
  • Set targets and manage the resource centre budget.
  • Support staff and pupils in accessing appropriate information and resources for class based curricular use, resource centre based curricular use, independent study, or recreation.
  • Develop the facilities of the resource centre to support the school's ICT strategy and support pupils and staff in their use.
  • Develop and implement policy and procedure for the resource centre in consultation with senior staff.
  • Ensure that the resource centre plan supports the priorities of the school development plan and reflects North Ayrshire Council's vision, values and aims.
  • Develop performance monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for the school resource centre and prepare reports for the senior management team.
  • Develop and effectively deploy computerised resource centre management systems to support learning and teaching.
  • Support teachers in developing and delivering curriculum based information literacy initiatives.
  • Support access to web based information including school's website and GLOW.
  • Enable access to external resources and information which impact on learning and teaching.
  • Support and promote reading for enjoyment including providing appropriate book events, author visits, book fairs and exhibitions.
  • Contribute to and identify opportunities for primary/secondary school liaison in collaboration with colleagues in Information and Culture.
  • Be committed to continuing personal and professional development relevant to the school resource centre.
  • Provide careers information and support access, liaising with Skills Development Scotland on effective development.
  • Participate in appropriate working groups at authority level.
  • Assist in ensuring that the Council's Health and Safety policies are implemented in all aspects of work.
  • Liaise with primary and special schools in the cluster. Plan and oversee initiatives in local libraries in conjunction with lifelong learning team, local library staff and other Connected Communities staff.
  • Responsible for the continuing development of primary school libraries by advising school staff and, in more demanding circumstances, liaising with Greenwood Centre Librarian to organise central support. Monitor the annual collation of statistics for the Scottish Library and Information Council's Quality Indicators and report problems to Greenwood Centre Librarian.
  • Monitor the Information Literacy arrangements for primary and secondary schools in order to ensure progression in information skills is embodied across the curriculum.   Develop use of the Information Toolkit, including opportunities such as class visits to local libraries.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the resource centre as requested by the head teacher or nominee.
