Based within Renfrewshire House, Cotton Street, Paisley. Renfrewshire is one of the larger authorities in Scotland with a population of 170,000 covering both urban and rural communities. Its area attracts major development opportunities and interests including Glasgow Airport, the major Riverside developments at Braehead and Renfrew, and the former Royal Ordnance Factory, Bishopton Community Growth Area together with an ambitious Council-led capital investment programme and has been shortlisted in the bid to become the UK's City of Culture in 2021. The post is based in Paisley and provides an excellent opportunity for a newly qualified or recent graduate to contribute to the Council's high quality service provision and to gain practical experience. The appointment will be for a temporary period of two years. The post will be based within the Development Standards Section of the Development and Housing Service which delivers the Council's Development Management and Building Standards functions. Opportunities to gain experience in different sections may be available. We are looking to recruit an appropriately qualified assistant planner who will be responsible for processing a range of planning applications and undertaking other related development management activities including enforcement and appeals. You must have a Degree in Planning or equivalent discipline. A basic knowledge of planning legislation and development management regulations is essential as is effective communication, customer care, I.T. and time management skills, and the ability to work as part of a team while using your own initiative to meet targeted deadlines with the minimum of supervision. A full, current driving licence is also essential. Candidates will start on the first point of GRG, £22,356, and progress through the increments as per progression rules.
