The Wealth business incorporates customer facing teams in regional offices across the UK and is made up of three regions, London, North (covering the North of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland) and South (covering the south of England outside of London). These teams manage the relationship with Wealth clients providing Investment, Wealth Planning, Credit and banking solutions to Affluent, HNW and where appropriate, Key clients.

Purpose of role

Regional Heads are responsible for the geographic leadership of regions within the Wealth business. The Wealth business is responsible for c. GBP15.6bn AUM delivering GBP120m revenue per annum with 160 bankers servicing over 14,500 clients. They will lead a multi site location strategy, coordinating with diverse populations externally while operating as representative for the Wealth business. They will also directly or matrix manage diverse internal specialism across Wealth Management, Wealth Planning, Mortgage Specialists, Credit specialists, Investment Advisors, Portfolio Managers and support teams.

Working across Barclays group, they will coordinate the Wealth strategy, regionally coordinating with Corporate MDs, Head of Premier, Head of Retail and Head of Business Bank to deliver across the Barclays Balance scorecard, whilst engaging in the wider Wealth sector in their geographic markets. The role is also responsible for supervision and regulatory responsibility within their regional market.

The primary purpose of the role is to drive business performance of Wealth teams based within the Wealth business with clients with investible assets over GBP500,000. Core components include:

  • Leadership and performance management of 4-8 Director Team Managers
  • Strong and integrated relationships with Corporate and Personal banking, facilitating and leading the investment strategies of Barclays Wealth in their regional markets.
  • Establishing long-term external relationships that are planned effectively across regional markets to drive delivery of the respective strategies to identify further growth opportunities.
  • Responsibility for all Conduct Risk across their geography, ensuring standards are delivered consistently creating a high level of professionalism.
Core accountabilities


The role holder will provide clear and effective leadership, in line with Barclays Guiding Principles, but clear and consistent communication of goals and objectives. They will be focused on their professional development and that of their team in order to maximise the potential of all colleagues and ensuring job satisfaction and high talent retention rates.

They will lead the strategic direction of their geographic territory, within the wider Wealth strategy ensuring that this aligns with other Barclays' areas with a specific expectation to bring and share across the Wealth business, best practice from other areas of the Barclays group as well as externally to the business. The role holder will provide leadership to both direct reports and the wider Wealth business across all aspects of the Balanced Scorecard and will contribute to the wider Wealth & Investments and Barclays group agendas. The role holder will also develop and champion the citizenship agenda.

Client Focus

The role holder will drive a client-centric culture by ensuring the teams consistently deliver an exceptional client experience and provide Barclays products and services based upon an in-depth understanding of clients' needs. The role holder will also work with the wider Wealth leadership team to develop regional plans enabling us to lead the market and deliver consistent and excellent execution across the Wealth business.

Every decision taken should be made with a specific consideration of what this means for our clients both in the short and long term - 'right client, right advice'. Only by ensuring that we build sustainable mutually beneficial relationships will the business be successful in the long term.

Risk and governance

With teams operating from multiple locations in the course of conducting their business, the role holder must, through working with the wider Wealth, Wealth & Investments and Barclays group community, ensure that appropriate governance frameworks are complied with and that regulatory requirements are adhered to.

They will be responsible for ensuring that their teams adhere to the investment, banking, credit, conduct, operational and reputational risk policies, governance and procedures. The role holder will :
  • have accountability for driving adherence to Customer Due Diligence procedures covering KYC/Customer Acceptance and Financial Crime responsibilities;
  • ensure that the business operates within a culture of excellence and that teams have effective risk management practices in place and are compliant with the higher of local regulatory and Barclays group minimum standards.
  • Display appropriate coaching and assessment skills as well as the technical knowledge to act as a competent supervisor and assessor for the FSA approver persons regime.
Performance Management

The role holder will be required to manage the performance of 4-8 direct reports, c.100 direct and indirect staff, helping them to identify strengths and development areas in their own skills and behaviours.

The role holder will be expected to Instil a high performance culture within the region that reflects Barclays Values. They will be accountable for delivery of exceptional performance across the Balanced Scorecard measures of client, colleague, conduct, citizenship and company whilst maintaining sound risk management. In doing so the role must also deliver great customer service and maximise sustainable profitability across Barclays' businesses. They will develop the required skills, culture and motivation, including using appropriate Management information, to support excellent performance across all areas by their direct and indirect reports. The will ensure that their regional business consistently meets fiduciary and regulatory expectations.

As business head of the Wealth business for their region, the role holder will be accountable for ensuring that the team's financial budgets are achieved. To deliver continuous improvement in the client experience, the role holder will be accountable for ensuring there is a clear feedback route for insight / improvements / support necessary to enable the Wealth business to succeed, requiring effective close working relationships across Wealth, Wealth & Investments and the wider Barclays group.

The role holder will be accountable for designing and delivering their regional geographic approach to implementing the Wealth & Investments and Wealth strategies for Affluent, HNW and where appropriate, Key Client relationships, coordinating insight and initiatives to influence / guide / drive future strategic direction. The will also be expected to influence, challenge, stretch and align with their peers with the purpose of driving growth and consistency in strategically important areas.

Using their market and competitor knowledge and insight gained as a result of expertise built up in the UK market, the role holder will be accountable for maintaining / driving, customer centric solutions for Barclays Affluent, HNW and where appropriate, Key Client segments. Inherent within this is a need to ensure that we keep the client at the heart of everything we do.

The role holder will work with the Head of Wealth Management and Wealth senior leadership team to coordinate and prioritise strategic investment demand across the Wealth business. The will manage cost and income within an agreed budget, driving improvements where possible.

Strategic development

The role holder will be responsible for coordinating insight and initiatives to influence / guide / drive future strategic direction within the Wealth business as appropriate.

The role holder will contribute to the strategic leadership of Wealth as a member of the senior leadership team and as such has a role in influencing and driving the growth of the entire Wealth business.
