JOB TITLE: Business Services Manager / Bursar

SALARY & BENEFITS: Negotiable 

WORKING HOURS: Full Time 37.5 hours per week 

THE SCHOOL: Albyn School is an independent, coeducational day school based in Aberdeen. It comprises three sections: A nursery for around 120 children aged 2-5; a Lower School for around 260 pupils aged 5-12 and an Upper School of just under 360 pupils aged 12-18. The School is both a registered charity with OSCR and a limited liability company registered in Scotland.

THE ROLE: Albyn School is looking for a dynamic, high performing Business Services Manager / Bursar to lead the management of the School’s finances, direct the non-teaching administrative and domestic staff and oversee the development of the School’s property, accommodation and facilities. The Bursar is a member of the School’s Senior Management Team and serves as Clerk to the Governors. The School has an approximate annual turnover of £8 million and employs around 30 non-teaching staff so this is a key post which will be exciting and rewarding for the successful candidate. The Business Service Manager / Bursar is supported by two full time and one part time members of staff. We are looking for someone with ability, experience and confidence, allied with strong interpersonal skills, who will wish to play a full part in the life of this vibrant community.

THE CANDIDATE: The successful candidate for the role of Business Services Manager / Bursar must have a proven and successful background in finance/accounting, including planning and control, general management, revenue generation and have an awareness of some or all of the following:
• Company and charity law;
• Contract, health and safety and employment law;
• Project management;
• Monitoring health and safety matters;
• Managing a multi-disciplinary team;

The Business Services Manager / Bursar should also be able to present evidence of the following qualities either through their written application, their references or at interview:

• A high level of attention to detail;
• Strong interpersonal skills and team-working abilities;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• A good level of ICT competence;
• Flexibility with regard to working hours which may include occasional weekends or evenings
• The ability to meet deadlines.

Key experience essential for the Business Services Manager / Bursar role:
• Experience in the education sector would be advantageous 
• Previous experience in a finance/accounting
• Experience in project management 
• Facilities experience advantageous 
• Experience of managing a multi discipline team 
• Live within a commutable distance of Aberdeen or willing to relocate
