Job Description

Working Pattern: Monday - Friday, 3 shifts per day (08.20 - 09.05, 12.35 - 13.20, 15.00 - 15.30). For Collydean Primary School at Collydean Way

You will play a vital role in community safety by ensuring children and other members of the community safely cross the road at a designated point between specified times. 

It is essential that you are able to attend the patrol point in all weathers, including attending at short notice in the event of unscheduled school closures.

The normal working week is restricted to opening and closing times of the schools over the school term period (August-July).  Shift times will vary dependant on the location of the post, however, these will be approximately 8.30am to 09.05am for the morning shift, 12.30pm to 1.25pm where a lunchtime shift is required and 2.55pm to 3.25pm for the afternoon shift. Hours will vary from 6.25 hours to a maximum of 10 hours weekly.

Fife Council pays the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate to employees earning less than £8.51 per hour. If the hourly rate of pay for the post is less than the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate a supplement will be paid.



Requirements

Although no formal qualifications are necessary, the ability to cope in all weather conditions, a good road sense, knowledge of Highway Code/Green Cross Code and previous experience working with children would be desirable. 

Training in safe crossings, along with access to a dedicated co-ordinator for advice and personal development is also available.

Before confirming your appointment to the post, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Membership through Disclosure Scotland



Responsibilities

To carry out the council's policy with regard to SCP (school crossing patrol service) which includes health and safety procedures.

To use all uniform and equipment provided for the safety of yourself, children and all other members of the public, especially when stopping traffic on the highway.

Maintain control over children who are awaiting your instruction to cross.

Report any problems or difficulties to the Area Management Team of the SCP service.

You will be expected to attend in-service training days.
