A vacancy has arisen for a permanent full time social worker within one of our three Early Intervention and Prevention Teams. These teams were established as part of Midlothian Children Services recent review and have a focus on early engagement underpinned by GIRFEC, ensuring that intervention with vulnerable and chaotic families is thoughtful, measured and outcome focussed. The successful candidate will form part of a duty and assessment service on a three weekly rotational rota and in addition will carry a caseload of short term intervention work which will include children on the child protection register and children who are looked after and accommodated.

We are also currently seeking two Supervising Social Workers in the Midlothian area to join our Family Placement Team. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of our team. We are keen to recruit social workers who have experience of working in the adoption and fostering field and are able to carry out relevant assessments, supervise carers and offer adoption post support where appropriate to ensure a high standard of care is received by children & young people in the care of Midlothian Council. In addition, this role is to actively support the recruitment foster carers.


• BA Social Work qualification or equivalent DipSW, CQSW and SSSC registration.
The job holder also needs to be able to demonstrate an understanding or experience of:
• Legal frameworks and the Local Authority's statutory responsibilities relevant to the service area;
• National and local practice, policy, procedure and legislation relevant to the post;
• Have knowledge and understanding of a range of systemic interventions and methodologies such as attachment, child development, systemic support, relationship-based approach, motivational interviewing techniques and the impact of trauma.


• Post-qualifying experience working with children and families and/or a family placement setting;
• Child Welfare and Protection Certificate, or demonstrate a commitment to work towards it;
• Joint Investigative Interview Certificate, or demonstrate a commitment to work towards it.

A working knowledge of motivational interviewing techniques.
