Firefighter (Control), Various Locations
The Scottish Fire & Rescue Service is delighted to invite applications for the post of Firefighter (Control). A number of fixed term opportunities are available at each of our regional control rooms based at Dundee, Edinburgh and Johnstone for an initial period of 18 months.
We are seeking motivated, confident and resilient individuals from across our diverse communities to undertake this challenging but extremely satisfying and rewarding job - providing a vital service to the community.
The primary role is to receive emergency calls from members of the public, mobilise appliances and firefighters to deal with incidents throughout Scotland. As the first point of contact for members of the public who may be in a particular stressful situation, excellent communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure is essential.
Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate excellent keyboard skills and computer literacy as attention to detail and the ability to collate and interpret information from a range of sources is a vital part of the role. A minimum of National 4 English, or equivalent qualification is essential. Experience in call handling and dealing with members of the public would be beneficial.
Self-development is both encouraged and supported, as the successful applicant must be able to learn and apply new skills. Following an initial probation period there is a supervisory structure in place to allow progression in the service.
The role involves shift work, where you will be required to work in a Rota involving, day, night and weekend working.
