The PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS Support Service is an integral part of the Additional Support Needs provision of Midlothian Council. The service provides a flexible approach to meeting the needs of children and young people experiencing a range of social, emotional and behavioural needs. Services are delivered to the 6 Secondary Schools, currently, and are looking to developed their support in to Primary over 2017/18 and 2018/19.

The multi-disciplinary team consists of:

• ASN Schools Group Manager
• Depute Headteacher
• 2 x Principal Teachers
• Support Teachers
• Youth Work Co-ordinator
• Youth Workers
• Administrative Staff.
The team provide an outreach service to promote inclusion and sustain inclusive practices through service activities that aim to develop and enhance the skills of both children and staff operating in a range of systems and contexts.

A limited number of off-site supported placements are available at Pathways to Success for secondary aged children experiencing significant SEBN and who are currently supported by the service in other interventions. Here they experience environments which allow them to continue with an education following a broad general curriculum and a senior phase, is responsive to their emotional and educational needs and maximises their achievements. The aim is always to enable children to gain the skills required to make a successful transition into full time mainstream education.

You are required to have a minimum qualification of PDA in Youth Work or SVQ Level 3


Fully trained jobholders must hold a minimum SVQ3 level qualification in Youth Work, or equivalent subject, and have experience leading youth activities.

Youth Worker (B) Experienced jobholders who have not yet attained theSVQ3 level qualification in Youth Work but are currently studying towards it will be paid at scp 30.

Youth Worker (A) jobholders who can demonstrate literacy and numeracy equivalent to standard grade level 3 and who have considerable youth work experience will be paid at scp 22.

Working Pattern: Monday - Thursday: 08:30 - 15:30
Friday: 08:30 - 13:00

Weeks per year: 52 weeks

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on you working 30 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £18,346.49 per annum.

Regulated Work with Children

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children.

Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children. You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you.
