Role Purpose

The role holder will be responsible for and will lead the Wealth Operations IPMDM team both for our on-shore location which performs data master and control duties for Instrument and Price market data across Wealth Platforms including but not limited to: Avaloq, Charles River, Stockbrokers Legacy platforms, Wealthmaster The data master supports a number of Wealth businesses including: Barclays Stockbrokers, Smart Investor, UK Private Bank, Monaco, Geneva, Jersey OIP, GIML, BPIM. In addition responsible for our off-shore IPMDM team who are responsible for the creation, maintenance & control of instruments, the control and execution of asset pricing and the creation, maintenance & control of Compliance Rules (Charles River). These processing roles are based in Mumbai

The role holder will also be accountable and responsible for creation of a reporting assurance team which will compliment not only the current client reporting team and link with broader data quality and assurance programmes across Wealth Operations and BUK COO. The role holder will ensure high quality performance is in place and issues and risks are effectively managed. They will maintain appropriate and accurate client and operational data to support effective management and control of processes. They understand the Wealth data landscape, its architectures and technologies and understand the nature, boundaries and requirements of data privacy policies and legislation, ensuring all data usage and distribution adheres to these standards. They maintain compliance with relevant regulatory requirements across all areas of responsibility and they will pro-actively introduce procedural changes where required to maintain control standards, ensuring that transactions are processed in a timely and risk mitigating manner. They proactively advocate and lead the importance of Quality Management across the business.

The role holder will be responsible for the management of work in relation to Strategic and Tactical deliverables that drive efficiency and enhanced customer experience. In addition, the role holder will be responsible for the identification and implementation of process improvements supporting client, cost and risk objectives.

Key Accountabilities

  • The role holder will develop and manage senior stakeholder relationships with our Counterparts in Mumbai, Front Office, Middle Office, Build-the-Bank, Run-the-Bank, GI&S, Risk & Control, Compliance and Change: All Barclays colleagues have to ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards
  • The reporting assurance team will be an integral part of the wider Operations team across BUK COO, the implementation of strategic and regulatory aspects of the role are either defined by the regulation and / or the execution of the strategic initiative but all are expected to have a long term impact in terms of how the Wealth and Investment Business operates
  • The role holder will ensure that all processes have appropriate and consistent measures in place as well as quality indicators which will evolve in line with the Business. Productivity measures and benchmarks will need to be put in place, maintained and improved upon. BAU work is effective with SLA and quality targets achieved across all platforms within the current UK Wealth Architecture
  • Direct management of operations colleagues including all aspects of recruitment, development and retention
  • The role will compliment other functions across Operations including Data Operations, Client Reporting, Investment Operations and various service, risk and regulatory oversight functions
  • Stakeholder management will be at senior levels up to and including Executive Committee which will require in depth knowledge of the topic of discussion, the wider strategic deliverables of the Business as well as the confidence to articulate a point of view succinctly but also challenge where needed. The ability to craft and articulate governance packs is essential e.g., SLAs, client impacting issues and corresponding impact on risk frameworks such as ERMF
  • Decision making and problem solving skills will be focused on the ability to address challenges presented by strategic and regulatory initiatives that impact the Operations TOM and ability to input operational knowledge into changes to product, service and coverage
  • Leadership of operational key business initiatives and projects. Recent and ongoing examples include the development of supporting infrastructure for regulatory change e.g., MIFID II, assessing new product/servicing needs and changes to operational process as a result of business change
  • The role will require a strong controls focus - the role holder will have experience in managing regulated products
  • Collaborate with peers in other Business Units, create new relationships and build on existing relationships.
  • Skilled negotiator and communicator with the ability to traverse the organisation and deliver through influence
  • Both a Leader of People and a Functional Manager delivering operational change across Barclays
  • The role holder will continue to focus on automating, simplifying and integrating products and systems in order to sustain efficiency and regulatory compliance across Wealth Operations and O&T

Person Specification

  • Strong academic background, ideally including a graduate / post-graduate or professional qualification
  • Solid working knowledge of the European regulatory environment;
  • Flexibility and the ability to partner effectively with others, to develop relationships across geographies and across the organisation, and to motivate others to action amongst competing priorities;
  • Impeccable business judgment, and the ability to seek a wider audience, build consensus, influence and act decisively
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrable initiative, resourcefulness, and creativity. The ability to continuously seek out ways to improve upon and elevate effective work processes, such as employing technology to leverage resources and deliver a high return on investment for the firm

  • Is able to understand, explain and present complex business and technical ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences at all levels up to Exco level in a persuasive and convincing manner

Supervisory responsibilities

Up to 2-3 direct reports with overall responsibility for approximately 20-30 staff.

Stakeholder experience

The role holder will have highly developed interpersonal skills in order to effectively manage stakeholder relationships and strategic negotiations and the ability to navigate the Wealth organisation. They will have strong relationship management skills and the ability to influence and secure understanding and the agreement of key deliverables / issues across a number of different business segments.

People Management and Leadership

The successful candidate will possess strong leadership and people management skills, as they will be required to ensure the consistent management of succession planning. The individual will communicate progress against plans, achievements, and challenges and ensure the team have the correct training and tolls to undertake their duties to the highest standard. Set stretching objectives for self and team and deliver against those objectives. Lead, motivate, and develop their team to create a high performance culture and enhance the knowledge base, skills, talent and capability. Demonstrate effective use of performance development, share best practice, identify successors, and develop a culture of coaching and development.
