The Community Payback Supervisor is part of the Criminal Justice Social Work Service, and is involved in the day to day operation of the Community Payback Unpaid Work Scheme. The post is responsible to the Senior Social Worker Criminal Justice, and reports to Unpaid Work Co-ordinator on a day to day basis.

The Community Payback Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and management of individuals and small groups of offenders who have been sentenced by the Courts to carry out unpaid work in the community. Unpaid Work Placements are carried out in accordance with the Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 1995, and with National Outcomes and Standards for Social Work Services in the Criminal Justice System.

Because Community Payback Unpaid Work (previously known as Community Service) can be a direct alternative to prison the risk level of offenders for re-offending or risk of harm can be high. Therefore supervision of the offenders during placement to ensure that they do not offend and management of group dynamics is an essential part of this post.
