Temporary post for 23 months


ROLE DEFINITION

To work with management to deliver high quality family learning, through the engagement of parents and families in supporting their children's learning in the home.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Corporate Responsibilities

  • To undertake individual role in line with the Council's Strategic Priorities and in compliance with the Council's corporate policies and procedures.
  • To undertake any other reasonably required duties as instructed by Management or someone acting on their behalf, in addition to the role specific tasks & responsibilities detailed below.

Role Specific Tasks & Responsibilities

  • To support the delivery of family learning opportunities within North Ayrshire.
  • To provide parents with appropriate strategies to support their child's learning at home through structured programmes and materials.
  • To support parents to become more engaged in their child's learning.
  • To facilitate parents and families to have a positive impact on their child's attainment and achievement.
  • To build parental confidence and capacity to support their child's learning, and increase their engagement and participation in school life.
  • To co-ordinate the service's participation in initiatives with key partners and the wider community.
  • To develop capacity within communities in North Ayrshire for the development of family learning.
  • To deliver training opportunities for parents, North Ayrshire staff and community volunteers e.g. numeracy, literacy etc.
  • To develop capacity to support and enhance Curriculum for Excellence through the provision of high quality activities.
  • To work with partners in the delivery of literacies and digital participation programmes and activities within schools and the wider community.
  • To act as conduit of information sharing within the Council and the wider community.
  • To contribute to sharing best practice across schools and support staff development.
  • To ensure ongoing recording and evaluation is carried out to the highest standards and to provide relevant reports and statistics as required.
  • To participate in staff meetings and relevant working groups.
  • To attend appropriate national meetings, conferences and workshops and share good practice on your return.
  • Undertake continuing personal and professional development relevant to this post.

Education and Qualifications

  • Qualification in a relevant discipline, HNC/SVQ 3 or equivalent.   
  • Possess, or working towards, SVQ4 or above.

PVG (Children)

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007.  Therefore, it is an offense to apply if you are barred from working with children.
