Based at Renfrewshire House, Cotton Street, Paisley. As part of Renfrewshire Council's ambitious plans to transform the image of Renfrewshire and Paisley, we are seeking an experienced Senior Communications Officer on a temporary basis to join our communications, marketing and events team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference by joining the Council's Communications service at a time of unprecedented challenge and change - when effective and engaging communications are essential. The Council believes that in order to meet the challenges of the future it will need to work even more closely with partners to develop and maintain a vibrant local economy, provide a sustainable business and cultural infrastructure and to improve and protect the environment of Renfrewshire. We want to improve opportunities for all those who live and work in the area and we need especially to support the vulnerable, ensuring equality and fairness for all. The Council will not deliver these outcomes on its own - but can if it works closely and effectively with the wider community. Our communications agenda needs to support these aims. As a senior member of the Communications team you will be working proactively with Community Planning partners and others in the public, private and voluntary sectors to develop innovative and exciting campaigns and initiatives that will maximise the effectiveness of joint communications activities and ensure that Renfrewshire as a whole benefits from an excellent and joined up communications approach that breathes life into its partnership working. You will have a relevant degree or qualification and previous experience of working in a communications, marketing, media, public relations or new media environment in addition to demonstrating how media relations activities can help contribute to integrated and strategic communications programmes. You will have relevant experience in at least one of the following areas: developing press and communications strategies; developing proactive news and features for the media; developing well designed and targeted campaigns; maintaining brand consistency; providing an effective press and media enquiries response service; managing the efficient and effective delivery of an organisation's communications, web and social media presence. You will have effective leadership and team building skills, be enthusiastic and have the ability to work to tight deadlines. You will be a strategic thinker who will also have effective presentation, analytical, I.T and written skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across the council, and with our partners. You will also have an enthusiasm for discovering new and innovative ways of communicating with the public, employees and partners. Ideally you will have knowledge and understanding of current policy issues and developments affecting local government and the wider public sector environment. If successful, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure Scotland check, the level of check will be determined by the duties of the post. If you would like further information in relation to the Disclosure Scotland checks, please visit www.disclosurescotland.co.uk The contract will be for an initial period of six months with the possibility of extension. For an informal discussion about any aspect of this post please contact Lucy Adamson, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Manager 0141 618 4707. Closing Date - Wednesday 16th August 2017
