We are seeking to appoint a leader with vision and a passion for learning who will, along with a management team, lead learning at Penninghame Primary, Nursery and St Ninian’s RC Primary Schools. This post offers an exciting opportunity to shape educational provision within a dynamic school community which has high aspirations for all.
Penninghame Primary and St Ninian’s Roman Catholic School are located in the town of Newton Stewart (pop 4,000), Wigtownshire in south-west Scotland. Newton Stewart is a market town, sitting beside the River Cree and is described as the ‘Gateway to the Galloway Hills’. The area boasts many local industries including agriculture, forestry and tourism. Good housing is very affordable and the area is easy to reach by car, sitting just off the A75 Euroroute, from Dumfries (50 minutes), Stranraer (30 minutes) and north to Glasgow (1hour 45 minutes).
The schools and Nursery are located on the same site and have shared management structure arrangements consisting of a Headteacher, Depute Headteacher, three Principal Teachers, including a Principal Teacher of the Learning Centre, and a Nursery Manager.

Applicants will have proven leadership experience in primary education and be committed to very high standards of achievement. All staff¬ appointed to a Catholic school are expected to support and promote the aims, mission, values and ethos of the school, as illustrated in the Charter for Catholic Schools in Scotland however applicants do not require RC approval.
Applicants for teaching posts must be registered in the relevant sector with the General Teaching Council for Scotland, Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6UT.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
