Kanthal is part of the Sandvik Group and the manufacturing site for Kanthal Globar Silicon Carbide heating elements is based in Perth Scotland. Kanthal Globar heating elements are used in a wide variety of different industrial applications including the manufacture of technical glass products, automotive parts, renewable technologies and electronics.
We are now looking for a Technical Support Engineer to help us continue to grow our silicon carbide heating element business.
As a Technical Support Engineer you will be responsible for providing technical support to Sandvik sales offices and agents based around the world. You will receive enquires for Globar heating elements and convert these into detailed technical proposals, including layout drawings, electrical calculations and installation guidelines. As well as providing advice and support on the correct operation of Globar heating elements in different industrial applications, investigating technical issues, establish the root cause, and propose preventative actions. You will also be asked to support and contribute to various projects including new Globar product, create engineering drawings and furnace layouts using CAD software.
A key part of this role will be to build strong working relationships with the team here at Perth, colleagues in Sandvik field sales, R&D, production, and directly with Globar end users. As part of this, you may be asked to support with customer visits globally, to help grow sales of Globar heating elements, resolve technical issues and enhance customer relationships. You will need to prepare and deliver technical training on the features, benefits and use of Globar heating elements. As you develop in your role and gain experience with global products you will be asked to provide training to global sales personnel and customers, to improve knowledge and awareness of silicon carbide heating systems. Part of this might include working with our marketing department to create training materials, marketing literature and technical datasheets.
- Ideally, the successful candidate will have a degree in an engineering related discipline including electrical principles, mechanical engineering and thermodynamics.
- We also require experience of using CAD software, such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD. Experience of working within a manufacturing environment, providing technical support and communicating directly with internal and external customers would be an advantage, along with the understanding of industrial manufacturing processes an industrial furnace design.
- Knowledge of commercial awareness and understanding of business culture in other countries would also be beneficial. The ideal candidate needs to be able to work independently and be a team player.
- As Sandvik Heating Technology operate in international settings, your communication and presentation skills in English must be excellent, and some international travel may be required. You will need to be familiar with IT systems such as Microsoft Office and be able to manage projects.
Candidates who do not have all the above experience may still be considered if they meet the majority of requirements detailed above, and training will be provided in areas specific to our products.
