Argent Energy has an exciting opportunity for a Health, Safety & Environmental Coordinator to join the team based in Motherwell. You will be on a full time permanent basis and receive a competitive salary.

Argent Energy is the UK's leading waste-to-energy biodiesel producer with operations in Scotland and North West England. Our main plant, near Motherwell in Scotland, started production in 2005. Following significant investment to facilitate growth and development, a number of other facilities have been built in the Stanlow area which will increase our production capacity to 145 million litres per year.

As our Health, Safety & Environmental Coordinator you will direct report to the SHE Manager with key responsibilities to deliver local Health, Safety & Environmental management controls to meet company, legal and best compliance levels. Capable of carrying out site Health, Safety and Environmental Auditing and driving improvements by developing employee learning, involvement, integration and the analysis of results to ensure ongoing site development.

Responsibilities of our Health, Safety & Environmental Coordinator

- Develop and maintain the site Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems and monitor the control levels being achieved.

- Deliver and adjust controls against the site’s IPPC (environmental permit levels).

- Ensure all Risk Assessments have been carried out and kept up to date within the site teams. To also create HS&E aspects into the site’s Standard Operating Procedures.

- Deliver a Health, Safety and Environmental Training Plan for all key employee levels and ensure the training is facilitated in line with set budgets and integrated within the Operational Team.

- Carryout site Health, Safety and Environmental Audits to measure compliance against the legal requirements, company policies and procedures.

- Track and measure site performance against the company’s Health, Safety and Environmental Objectives.

- Guide and support the site employees, contractors and visitors to meet their Health, Safety and Environmental responsibilities through developing Safe Systems of Work and Direct Instruction and all environmental aspects and impacts are being assessed.

- Maintain a critical level of Personal Protection levels for the teams within agreed budget levels.

- Ensure all physical environmental controls are set up for areas such as spillage and emergency response.

- Have the ability on knowing when any Environmental breach of Permit has occurred.

General Health, Safety and Environmental skills

- Able to demonstrate analysis and deduction skills in accident and incident investigation.

- Able to understand the requirements of external audit systems such as HSG65, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001

- Able to manage Health, Safety & Environmental data both physically and electronically to demonstrate evidence retrieval

- Able to report and communicate in all Health, Safety and Environmental matters relevant to the Head of Health and Safety i.e. know when to raise the level

- Able to develop Health, Safety and Environmental Action Plans to drive responsibility and prompt response from management and operators

- Able to control all Contractor and Visitor movements as guided by the Group Health, Safety and Environmental requirements for the site

- Be the focal point for all emergency procedural requirements for the site including First Aid, Fire and Emergency Response. To also liaise with the external authorities i.e. HSE and SEPA

Skills needed to become our Health, Safety & Environmental Coordinator

This role would suit a graduate looking for a step into chemical processing/manufacturing and offers an opportunity to develop a high level of job experience in a fast moving creative management process

- NEBOSH General Health and Safety Certificate is a must

- Recognised Environmental Management Certificate would be preferred but not absolute as training could be offered

- Some experience in a Health, Safety and Environmental Role would be beneficial

- Report writing and analysis skills

- Some experience in dealing with the external authorities will be necessary

- Some experience in dealing with external HS&E audit systems e.g. HSG65 or OHAS 18001 and ISO 14001 will be a requirement for the role
