We are seeking to recruit a Senior Social Worker for the Adult Wigtownshire Social Work Team who will play a vital role as the operational lead and first line manager for this service. You are required to be a qualified Social Worker with extended years practice and you will either have or be working toward a recognised post qualifying award. You will also need to be registered with SSSC and hold a current driving licence. This is a full-time post covering the working week with the expectation that the SSW will work between Newton Stewart and Stranraer office.
Commitment is essential to the development of the service in collaboration with all stakeholders to ensure best possible outcomes for service users their families and carer’s within an integrated delivery model.
You will have a good knowledge of current legislation, council policies and procedures, plus strategic and policy development across Adult Heath and Social Care Services. In addition it is essential you have excellent communication skills, a comprehension of business systems and are competent in the use of computers. You will also have good organisational and administrative skills, be able to build and sustain professional relationships across all of our partner agencies and to work productively and effectively in a team context.
Finally, you will have a clear insight of the impact of disability on our service users and their carers’ and also be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the importance of advocacy services.
The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate high levels of self-motivation and initiative allied to strong professional integrity and a commitment to working as a member of the management team.
You will need to think creatively and innovatively and be flexible in your approach and be accountable for your own work and that of your team.
You will need excellent communication skills and be prepared to work with challenging and complex situations.
You would be working with a dedicated team who are committed to the development of Health and Social Care Integration. As part of a supportive management team you would have the opportunity to enhance your leadership skills.
A Social Work Degree/ DIPSW/CQSW/CSS qualification or equivalent is essential as is registration with the Scottish Council for Social Services.
A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
A small presentation will be required as part of the interview process.
