This is a time of significant change for the Social Work Service in Dumfries and Galloway. There are real opportunities to contribute to service delivery and development, within both single and multi-agency settings within this post.
Currently based within the Health and Social Care Hub at Nithbank, Dumfries, you will be a member of a busy social work team, mainly working with older adults, and their families/carers, within Dumfries and Lower Nithsdale.
Your primary responsibility will be to work in partnership with the person and formulate or help facilitate support/care provision. This will be in conjunction with service users’ families where appropriate, and alongside colleagues from other agencies and disciplines in the community.
You will need to be able to work under your own initiative and prioritise accordingly as well as being an integral member of a busy adult team. You will preferably have a knowledge base that encompasses aspects of social care for adults with priority needs, and their support plan solutions will involve a Personalised Approach in line with departmental policy, good practice and impending legislative requirements of the Social Care (Self Directed Support) (Scotland) Act 2013. You will also be expected to practice using protective legislation, in particular the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act in addition to NHS & Community Care legislation.
Experience of working in a health or social services setting is essential and a good working knowledge of the Frameworki system is desirable. An SVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or working towards this is essential and an SVQ Level 4 in Health and Social Care is desirable. Experience of assessment and care management is desirable. You must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
You will receive regular supervision and support from the Senior Social Worker and training opportunities as they arise in addition to ongoing support from team colleagues.
A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
