An opportunity has arisen to join Development Management in of one Scotland’s award winning Planning Authorities. We are looking for an experienced Planner with MRTPI keen to gain experience of a wide spectrum of planning work. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing a range of planning applications, from small Local level developments to assessing some of Fife’s most complex and most economically important development proposals.

Fife Council pays the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate to employees earning less than £8.33 per hour. If the hourly rate of pay for the post is less than the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate a supplement will be paid.


We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with a positive attitude to customer care. Individuals who are keen to progress their careers, further develop their knowledge and skills whilst delivering an excellent planning service. Applicants should be able to demonstrate a level of competence and knowledge of planning legislation commensurate with the post. In addition, the successful candidate must hold a degree or equivalent in Town and Country Planning. Applicants must also hold Chartered Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute.


The successful candidate will initially join either our Priority Applications Team, which is responsible for dealing with all National and Major applications in Fife or our Development Management Team, which processes a wide range of Local applications.
Initially the post-holder will either be responsible for dealing with a planning application caseload appropriate to their level of experience. They will be able to gain experience over the whole range of planning activities, as we positively encourage rotation between teams to provide a platform for gaining rounded experience and career progression. Fife processes a range of Major planning applications as well as applications relating to key economic sectors and investments and this provides opportunities for collaborative working with other parts of Economy, Planning and Employability Services and Economic Development in particular. The post can also provide the opportunity to gain experience in presenting applications to Committees and to act as an advisor to the Fife Local Review Body.

The Individual

We would particularly welcome applications from candidates with experience of assessing applications for a range of complex developments, including Major and EIA applications. Applicants should also be responsive to customers and keen to deliver to agreed targets.
