To enforce through various reactive and proactive means the range of trading standards and consumer protection law, including carrying out the statutory duties of a weights and measures inspector, and provide advice to consumers and businesses within Aberdeen City.
The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
A full UK driving licence
The Diploma in Trading Standards (DTS) or the equivalent Diploma in
Consumer and Trading Standards (DCATS) qualification which includes the Weights & Measures, Criminal & Civil Fair Trading, Product Safety, Intellectual Property, and at least one other module
PVG Membership for Regulated Work with Children or must obtain prior to a formal offer of employment being made.
The post holder must be prepared to:
Work outside in all weathers
Work outwith normal working hours where required
Lift and carry equipment or evidence up to a weight of 20kg
The post holder is expected to demonstrate:
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to apply complete applications for authorisation under RIPSA
Ability to take initiative and to develop work practices, policies and procedures.
Ability to advise on varied circumstances to a range of audiences including individuals at all levels or the organisation, business and general public
Ability to take a lead role and work as part of a team
Ability to work unsupervised, meet deadlines, determine priorities and manage workload.
Ability to manage and diffuse potentially challenging situations
