Swanton Care has a unique opportunity available for a Support Worker to join the team in Falkirk. The role is a full time, permanent position offering a salary of £7.20 per hour.
We provide services nationally for adults with autism, learning disabilities, mental health issues and a variety of complex needs. Offering a range of support solutions including registered care homes, care with nursing and community based supported living, Swanton were established in 2006 with a large number of our services existing prior to this.
To be a successful Support Worker experience working in the care sector is not essential as we will provide all the training needed, provided you can demonstrate the right attitude and commitment to our values. We offer a clear development plan, which includes a detailed training plan for all elements of the role, personal development plan, induction process, and ongoing supervisions and appraisals. Additionally support and guidance is provided for all our Support Workers to achieve their Care Certificate.
What are the responsibilities of the Support Worker?
- Fully understand the needs of each individual; involving the service user, their families and support network in all aspects of their care and support planning.
- Acting as a key worker for a number of service users ensuring that the team works together in the best interests of the individual and encouraging positive behaviours across the team.
- Ensuring the individuals health and well-being are maintained, encouraging independence and choices involving personal tasks, including personal hygiene and diet in accordance with their My Plan, and medication.
- Recording and evidencing outcomes in service user records, ensuring confidentiality.
- Contributing to the preparation, implementation, monitoring and regular review of individual care and support plans.
- Ensuring individuals’ dignity is maintained at all times and given support with their personal and intimate care as required in their My Plan. This may include bathing, toileting and assistance with dressing.
- Encouraging the people supported to participate in the activities they enjoy, or new experiences, and actively involve them in shopping for their clothes and food, food preparation, undertake housework, money management and help them develop new skills.
- Encouraging individuals to participate in social activities within the community, including tenant groups, education and training.
- Developing interests, volunteering and making friends whilst raising awareness of their own health and safety.
- To actively participate in training opportunities, attending all core skills and mandatory training to reach the required level of competence and utilising new skills to continuously improve and develop.
- Be alert to and proactive in safeguarding the health, safety and welfare of the people supported, yourself and colleagues based in the service, and escalate concerns to management.
Our ideal Support Worker will have the following skills & experience:
- Willingness to work towards Care Certificate
- A good standard of general education
- Experience in a care environment and either paid or voluntary supporting people with learning disabilities, autism or mental health needs
- Ability to use variety of differing methods of communication according to needs of service user
- Wide variety of interests to share with service users
- Knowledge of the local area
- Own transport is required for Community Support Workers
