Job Summary

Focused and driven, you will be committed to playing a key role in shaping the direction of RGU SPORT within our newly expanding sport development team.

You will lead a number of strategic sport development initiatives utilising your knowledge, experience and creative thinking to improve customer enjoyment of RGU SPORT programmes and the student experience at university.

Educated to degree level in a sport or leisure related discipline, you will have proven experience within a sport & physical activity environment, personal confidence and composure, excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to customer care.  You will have experience of working in a customer focused environment with skills related to managing projects, budgets and motivation.

You will have extensive knowledge of the current developments within the sport, physical activity and leisure fields and be preferably qualified in coaching or teaching at level 2 or above in one or more of: strength and conditioning or gym instructing; lifeguarding; first aid; climbing; group exercise; NGB sport award [eg swimming].

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain relevant industry experience and continuing professional development.

This role will involve some unsociable hours including evening and weekend working to meet client requirements.

Job Description

Responsible to: Sport Programmes Manager

Responsible for: Operational Team whilst on duty rota & coaches/teachers/instructors

Purpose of Post: Developing and managing of a number of strategic sport & physical activity work areas whilst helping to manage the quality of our wider operations and services.

Principal Duties
1. Identify, pursue, develop and manage specific areas of programme, such as: Performance Sport; Academic & Campus Wide Activity; Children, Schools & Community Engagement; Sports Clubs, Volunteering & Intra Mural; Corporate Wellness; Gym, Swim, Group Exercise & Membership Activity; Continuing Professional Development

2. Ensure effective & visible leadership of operational colleagues whilst on duty rota.

3. Contribute to Operational work areas including: Operational Administration; Health & Safety Management; Marketing & Promotion and Building Maintenance & Cleanliness as appropriate .

4. Assure compliance with the University’s policies and procedures.

5. Attend regular colleague training and personal development sessions. Ensure that qualifications are updated as and when required.

6. Build effective working relationships with other colleagues within RGU SPORT and across the University.

7. Cashing up tills & process orders on PECOS & CEDAR & utilise Leisure Management System to manage & develop bookings.

8. This role may offer opportunities to: lecture on the Applied Sports and Exercise Science Degree; deliver Group Exercise Classes, Colleague Training, NPLQ Courses, and First Aid
Courses; carry out Personal Training and Fitness testing.



Person Specification

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Professional Memberships

First Degree Sport/Leisure related Degree or equivalent experience.

Evidence of your individual Continuing Professional Development.

Knowledge and Experience

Sport & physical activity project management.

Team and personal motivational skills.

Able to utilise Microsoft and bespoke IT packages.

Experience of managing a budget & profitable contracts.

Knowledge of current developments within the sport, physical activity and leisure fields.

Experience of presenting and delivering training.

Experience of being customer focused and working in a busy facility.

This role will involve some unsociable hours including weekend working to meet client requirements.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Professional Memberships 

Level 2 or above coaching / teaching / instructing/ trainer assessor approved qualifications or equivalent in; gym instructing or strength and conditioning (UKSCA), lifeguarding (NPLQ), climbing (CWA), group exercise, first aid at work, Pool Plant operation, NGB sport awards (e.g. Swimming).

Hold a full UK driving licence.

Knowledge and Experience

Knowledge of HE sport.

Knowledge of good practice in relation to sport facilities management including Health & Safety.

Customer Experience; marketing; sales.

Experience of managing HR/colleague issues.

Experience of sales & marketing.

Experience of aquatic facility operations.

Experience of sports coaching or fitness instructing. Experience of Lifeguarding.

Experience of Climbing Wall Operations.
