Job Vacancy

As a supply Childcare and Development Worker with Midlothian you will be offered either short or long term placements on full or part time hours in one of our 22 nursery classes or 2 nursery schools. You will work as a member of the team responsible for developing life skills in children, and will therefore contribute to the planning and implementation of a balanced curriculum for children, providing a caring and stimulating learning environment, to enable children to achieve their potential.

You will have experience of working in a development setting and be registered with the SSSC.  You must hold a practitioner level qualification (e.g. SVQ3 in Childcare & Early Years Education or an HNC in Childcare and Education, or equivalent) that meets the requirements for SSSC (Scottish Social Services Council) registration. Qualifications which were previously recognised for SNNEB/NNEB registration may be acceptable.

An up to date first aid certificate is essential and food hygiene is desirable but if not held then training will be available.

The rate of pay for this post is £11.54 per hour.


This post is considered Regulated Work with Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children.

Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children. You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you.
