Menzieshill House and Turriff House are residential care homes for older people. We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated Social Care Officers to join our teams of dedicated, professional staff who provide a high standard of care to our service users. There are 2 part time, 30 hour posts available at Menzieshill House and 3 full time, 37 hour posts at Turriff House on a rota basis which includes evenings, weekends and night duty
Ideally you will hold an SVQ Level 2 in Care. If you do not hold the qualification you will be required to obtain it given the necessary assistance and training.
You will attend to personal needs of residents. Your duties will include physical tasks for example, helping with personal care tasks, assisting residents to eat and other identified needs. Our aim is to create a supportive homely atmosphere where residents can achieve maximum independence but also receive any support they may need. Duties will include assuming key worker status, completion of personal plans, organising reviews, and carrying out any identified duties required to meet the personalised care needs of our residents. You will also be required to be involved in social activities organised for residents and administer medications (training provided). Shift work, weekend working and periodic rotation on to night duty will be required. The duties as set out above include undertaking cleaning and other domestic duties as necessary. Duties will also involve the provision of personal care encouraging independence, supporting choice and dignity at all times and individual care planning.
You will have proven experience in working with older people, people with dementia or people with physical disabilities. You will be expected to actively participate as part of a team supporting service users to achieve their potential. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to use your initiative and work confidently in order to ensure service users and resources are fully supported. You will be expected to undertake shift work including evening, weekend work and night duty on a rota basis. You will be required to cope with change and be adaptable so flexibility is essential. You will be self-reliant and have the ability to remain calm in a crisis. This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Dundee City Council. The preferred candidate will also be required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council under the section for support workers within six months of commencement.
