35 hrs per week, salary pro rata, 47 weeks per year - Fixed Term until 30 June 2017

The key duties of this post are:

To teach pupils to play all String instruments (violin, viola, cello & double bass), develop their musical literacy, aural awareness and interest in music making

.The skills and experience you must have are:

  • Nationally recognised advanced music qualification
  • Knowledge and understanding of the current curriculum
  • Advanced level string playing, conducting and rehearsing skills
  • Thorough knowledge of teaching all string instruments (violin, viola, cello and double bass) and an ability to teach all to a minimum Grade 5 Associated Board standard
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work flexibly
  • Ability to teach and inspire young players
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and parents
  • Ability to deliver well prepared lessons taking into account the needs of the learner
  • Excellent communicator
  • Able to work effectively with other staff

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.
