East Lothian Council is seeking to recruit suitably qualified secondary teachers to cover short term and fixed term supply positions currently available across our 6 secondary schools. Supply teachers are recognised as being particularly important in ensuring continuity for pupils in terms of effective teaching and learning and we welcome applications from teachers looking for short or long term supply work, on a full or part-time basis.
We currently have supply teaching opportunities for all subject areas and particularly welcome Maths, Home Economics, Sciences, Computing and IT, Business Studies, Drama and Modern Languages.
There are good transport links to the area from Edinburgh, the Lothians and the Borders and with over 40 miles of stunning coastline, beautiful countryside and of course some of the world’s finest golf courses, East Lothian a great place to work and live. Purpose of the Job
Teaching relevant subject through S1-S6.
Subject to the policies of the school and the education authority the duties of teachers, promoted and unpromoted, are to perform such tasks as the Head Teacher shall direct having reasonable regard to overall teacher workload related to the following catagories-
a. teaching assigned classes together with associated preparation and correction
b. developing the school curriculum
c. assessing, recording and reporting on the work of pupils
d. preparing pupils for examinations and assisting with their administration
e. providing advice and guidance to pupils on issues related to their education
f. promoting and safeguarding the health, welfare and safety of pupils
g. working in partnership with parents, support staff and other professionals
h. undertaking appropriate and agreed continuing professional development
i. participating in issues related to school planning, raising achievement and individual review
j. contributing towards good order and the wider needs of the school

Qualification in relevant subject area
For Temporary Posts: Full/Provisional GTCS Registration is required.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.
All preferred candidates for posts carrying out regulated work with these groups will be required to become a PVG Scheme member, or undergo a PVG Scheme update if they are already a member, prior to any formal offer of employment being made by East Lothian Council.
