This is a time of significant change for the Social Work Service in Dumfries & Galloway and the health & social care sector generally. This post offers an opportunity to contribute to service delivery and development within the Community Annandale and Eskdale and Adult Duty Social Work Team based in Annan Town Hall.

Your primary responsibility will be to assess the needs and risks of/to service users. This is done in conjunction with service users, their families and/or carers and other members of multi-disciplinary teams we are part of. Experience of working with older people or people with a learning disability would be beneficial as would knowledge of community services for older adults or adults with a learning disability in the statutory, third and independent sectors.

You will be expected to practice using protective legislation, in particular the Adult Support & Protection (Scotland) Act in addition to Community Care legislation as well as having a clear understanding of personalisation and Self-Directed Support.

You will need to have excellent communication, assessment, analytical and co-ordination skills. You will need to prepare assessments of need and risk and be able to prepare plans that flow from these. You will be committed to evidence based practice and will receive good support, regular supervision and opportunities for development.

A DipSW/CQSW/CSS/Social Work degree qualification or equivalent is essential as is registration with the Scottish Council for Social Services.

Participation in our duty team and the out of hours Emergency Duty Service is a requirement of this post.

A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 and preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.

The temporary post is for a period of up to one year and may be suitable for secondment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post.
