About the role

The LSU was set up in response to the needs of our clients who told us that they want innovative solutions and better value from their legal advisers, particularly around the resourcing of repeat legal work. The team provides legal support services to our lawyers and clients in the UK and internationally.

CMS is a sector focused firm with our priority areas in Scotland being oil and gas, financial services and real estate. Our paralegals work flexibly across all of our areas of expertise. The successful candidates will support our teams in a range of contentious and non-contentious work. Our LSU team assists with a wide range of work, from major corporate deals to large litigations, commercial property sale and lease transactions to employment matters along with countless other projects.

Why choose CMS? CMS is one of a few international law firms operating in Scotland. As a result we can offer you excellent opportunities to work with colleagues and clients in a wide range of jurisdictions. We also offer the opportunity to specialise, career progression to ensure you remain motivated and a clear career structure. Finally, a competitive salary and excellent benefits, such as a fantastic pension and a gym subsidy, make us the law firm of choice.

Full training will be given on the systems, processes and technical legal areas.

• Document and contract review such as assisting with due diligence processes;

• Initial drafting of legal documents;

• Working with our clients and internal teams, often reporting to a senior paralegal as team leader;

• Supporting our lawyers and existing LSU paralegals on a number of different workstreams;

• Completing self-contained tasks involved in large transactions and projects; and

• Delivering regular legal support tasks to lawyers for repeat matters and liaising with them and clients as required.

About you

• Proven interest in law - either a Law degree or Business Law degree is preferred but not essential;
• Previous paralegal experience in an office or legal environment would be advantageous;
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, challenging environment to tight deadlines;
• Organised, disciplined and thorough with a high degree of attention to detail;
• Ability to build relationships with internal stakeholders and clients.

About us

CMS is an international organisation with market leading businesses throughout Central and Eastern Europe and beyond. We're also founding members of the CMS organisation of major independent European law firms, which brings ten leading European law firms together under one banner. Together, they have 61 offices across 30 countries in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and South America. Each CMS firm is well established in its own jurisdiction and well versed in multi-jurisdictional projects.

We work hard to be a truly client-focused law firm. That means not just understanding the unique challenges of every market sector, but also providing a service that's tailored to the needs of each client. Our partners are hands-on and work hard to get closer to clients with everything from joint training initiatives and advice surgeries to visits and social events. What's more, our teams have the ideal balance of personality and industry expertise to suit the varied needs of our clients.

We're considered more accessible than many of our competitors. Our clients tell us they like working with us and that we're seen as the human face of the law. Independent surveys also reveal that our own people think we're down to earth and that our partners are very approachable.

Working here, you can expect an open, welcoming atmosphere, as well as supportive colleagues who share their expertise. You'll have the chance not just to progress quickly, but also to make lifelong friends in the process.

Equal opportunities

We welcome and promote diversity among our staff and we are committed to a policy of equal opportunity in all aspects of employment practice.
