Job Description

We currently have 2 posts for Learning Assistants. Both posts are Term-Time and the salary will be pro-rata to the number of hours worked. Please see specific post details below:

1. Renton Language Unit, Permanent, 27.5 hours per week

2. St Joseph's Rainbow base, Permanent, 27.5  hours per week.

West Dunbartonshire Council are delighted to offer the opportunity to highly motivated applicants who have a passion for working with children with additional support needs. The successful candidate will offer flexible support in the role of Learning Assistant working in a specialist
environment. The purpose of this role is to assist Teaching staff with the care and support of children with additional support needs whilst contributing to the learning process. Applicants are required to demonstrate previous experience working with children or young people with additional support needs in a school environment or similar, applicants must also have experience of basic school support adminstration such as using Microsoft Word/Excel, completing paperwork, preparing materials for lesson and adhoc phone/reception duties. Effective communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to work well within a team are essential.



Requirements

The new PVG scheme replaces enhanced disclosures when undertaking work with Children or Vulnerable Adults. This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred applicants will be required to become members of the relevant PVG scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.



Responsibilities

The employment for which you are applying is excepted from the provisions of section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order 1975. Applicants are, therefore, not statutorily entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are "spent" under the provisions of the Act. In the event of employment any failure to disclose such convictions could result in dismissal or disciplinary action.
