Clerk of Works (Transport Design & Delivery, Planning and Transport - Place)
Salary: £23,688 - £28,347
The Transport Design & Delivery service is responsible for project management, design, procurement and construction / contract management of a diverse mixture of roads and transport related civil engineering improvement projects across the City.
The scope of projects delivered is extensive in nature, inclusive of Capital Improvements, Road Safety, Cycling, Traffic Signals, Bus Priority and Road Maintenance inclusive of ‘high profile’ multi-million projects such as Leith Programme, Citywide 20 mph roll out, St Andrew Square improvements as well as work to support the Local Development Plan. This diverse range of projects offers both a challenging mixture of work and opportunity for staff to develop themselves in a range of design disciplines. It also offers people the opportunity to actually define, change and improve the infrastructure in the City which they live, taking pride in doing so.
Working within the Transport Design & Delivery team, you will assist in the day to day supervision and inspection of all works and activities on the public road network undertaken by both in-house and external contractors. This will require liaison with representatives of developers and contractors (in-house and external) to ensure that works are undertaken safely and expeditiously minimising any delay and disruption to the travelling public. The role will require you to maintain comprehensive records of all inspections and communications to ensure that the Councils position and interests are safeguarded at all times. Record details of all agreed variations to specified work. Where necessary and appropriate, issue formal instructions to those undertaking works to ensure compliance with national and Council standards.

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to undertake this challenging but highly rewarding role. The successful candidate should have a working knowledge of the DMRB and MCHW and be familiar with the relevant Health and Safety legislation.
You will receive instructions from the Senior Engineer / Transport Design & Delivery Manager, will be expected to work independently and/or supported as necessary (dependent on experience) to carry out the duties assigned and to deal with problems as they arise.
Self-motivation and the ability to work to strict deadlines are important, as well as the ability to work as part of a team. The post can involve liaison with external and internal stakeholders and thus it is important that you have good 'people' skills.
Within The City Centre – Waverley Court - Market Street, Edinburgh. However, during your employment you may be required to work at any workplace within the area of the Council.
