Class Teacher, St Paul's RC Primary School, Fixed Term until 13/02/17 (Maternity Cover) 35 hours per week, closing date 25th September 2016

St. Paul’s Primary School is a denominational school serving the villages of East Calder, Mid Calder, Pumpherston and Kirknewton. We also have placing requests from outside the catchment area each session.

St. Paul’s currently has 7 classes and a nursery class. This session the school has 7.8FTE equivalent teachers including one principal teacher. There is a 0.4 support for learning teacher, 0.5 PE specialist, 0.2 music specialist, 2 pupils support workers and one full time admin assistant. St. Paul’s also has a weekly visit from a brass instructor. Our nursery class has the capacity for 40 preschool children aged 3 and 4 years. As a result of quality assurance processes including assessment of pupils work and discussions with pupils we identified developing our outdoor learning programme, including in our nursery class, and tracking and monitoring learner’s progress in science and social studies as the key improvement areas for session 2015/16.

This session, the priority for improvement is to develop excellence through raising attainment and achieving equity and the areas for development will be:.

To develop a more systematic and robust approach to pupil profiling including the introduction of the” Online Learner’s Journey” in the Nursery Class. This will allow us to engage parents more effectively in their child’s learning experiences.

To review and refresh our learning pathways in technologies enabling all learners including those in our ELCC class to be informed, skilled, thoughtful ,adaptable and enterprising citizens. To begin to track pupil  progress and skills development  across SALs in technologies .

A relevant teaching qualification and registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland is essential.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the West Lothian Council.
