The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have an excellent temporary opportunity for a General Assistant within Kilmarnock Community Fire Station, West SDA.

 

As a General Assistant you will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe and hygienic environment by carrying out a broad range of cleaning and basic maintenance functions. You will work a 35 hours week, within a five day working week.

 

Your day-to-day duties will include general cleaning duties, minor repairs and maintenance, basic labouring tasks and carrying out errands and porterage duties. The manual aspects/ activities of the role can be physically demanding and therefore you should ensure that you, and external employees working inside the HQ building, comply with the Scottish Fire and Rescue’s Health and Safety at Work procedures, and ensure that safe systems of work are adhered to at all times.

 

It is essential that you have previous experience within a similar role and environment. You must be able to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team, and also follow instructions. You have a commitment to achieving and maintaining high standards, be reliable and trustworthy, and promote safe and effective working practices at all times.

 

An awareness of Health and Safety Regulations and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) as they relate to cleaning materials would be desirable, as would relevant qualifications and experience of dealing with customers.

 

This post is also subject to the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exemptions) Scotland Order 2003. Therefore the successful candidate's will be subject to a Standard Disclosure record check through Disclosure Scotland.
