CASUAL/RELIEF

ROLE DEFINITION

Ensure that the school building is made ready for pupils and staff, that the building and grounds are maintained in a safe & tidy condition and that the school is made secure at the end of the school day.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Corporate Responsibilities

  • To undertake individual role in line with the Council’s Strategic Priorities and in compliance with the Council’s corporate policies and procedures.
  • To undertake any other reasonably required duties as instructed by Management or someone acting on their behalf, in addition to the role specific tasks & responsibilities detailed below.

Role Specific Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Unset alarm and open the school ensuring all areas are safe for users of the building, clearing broken glass and requesting special cleaning as required
  • Operate and test fire & burglar alarms, CCTV & security lighting as well as carrying out and recording fire drills under the direction of the Head Teacher, also ensuring fire equipment is maintained.
  •  Monitor use of school to prevent damage, unauthorised entry/use to grounds and car park, liaising with emergency services in the event of break-in or fire.
  • Maintain safe access for pedestrians and keep grounds free of litter.
  • Operate / maintain heating plant and complete energy usage records.
  • Report and record fabric defects and direct contractors to work site, liaising with maintenance officer.
  • Carry out minor repairs.
  • Porterage of equipment, mail and materials within premises & grounds, setting up and down desks and furniture to suit teaching purposes.
  • Requisition and maintain inventory of janitorial supplies
  • Monitor the cleaning service outcome ensuring that all areas are left dirt and dust-free, raising temporary variation orders for cleaning where required and ensuring the standard of cleanliness is maintained in toilet areas outwith cleaning hours.
  • Complete and record documentation on building, completing simple sketches where required.
  •  Provide adult presence at break times as directed by the Head Teacher, advising on behaviour/safety of pupils and to be present when pupils access/alight school buses.
  •  Ensure the school is secured at the end of the working day unless still fully operational.
